Unlike many, we design and develop pharmacy refrigerators from the ground up in consultation with pharmacists and healthcare professionals to ensure that they provide safe and secure storage for cold chain pharmaceuticals and aid compliance with professional guidelines. For example, our IntelliCold® range features a unique touch screen controller, designed and developed by Labcold, which automatically records the internal temperature and other fridge functions. The controller also locks after 30 seconds so buttons cannot be pressed by accident and is completely flat so easy to clean as there are no buttons where germs can hide.
The IntelliCold® range, which is available in sizes from 36 litre capacity to 543 litres, also features a second ‘wandering‘ temperature probe. This can be placed in a vaccine or pharmaceutical packaging to measure the load or thermal mass temperature of the product being stored. If you are a wholesale pharmacist this will ensure your fridge meets MHRA requirements. Many competitor refrigerators use temperature probes submerged in a larger vial than the actual vials stored inside, which can give inaccurate readings. This misrepresentation of the actual product temperature can compromise the efficacy of the stored items without the user realising it.
As you would expect IntelliCold® refrigerators are designed and developed to meet the requirements of The Green Book in that they have minimum/maximum temperature recording with a reset, high/low alarms, and digital temperature display all of which can activate on both the air and the load temperature. There is a choice of glass and solid doors across the range plus a choice of key or digital locks. There are also divided drawers for the under-counter and larger refrigerators and some models are fitted with integral brackets to allow for wall mounting.
All IntelliCold® pharmacy fridges also have an access port, remote alarm contacts, energy saving LED light and a self-closing door. They also have alarm battery back up, so if there is a mains power failure and they are fitted with batteries, the controller will not only alarm to alert you to the situation but will also still record data.
The IntelliCold® controller records temperature data every minute plus certain fridge operations such as door openings and alarms. This data can be downloaded to a Micro SD card and transferred to a computer for storage, making it easy to keep the required 10 years of fridge temperature data. It also means that if there is an alarm, you can see exactly how long the refrigerator might have been out of range, meaning there can be a more informed decision about the viability of the contents.
Labcold IntelliCold® refrigerators are used by retail, hospital and wholesale pharmacists and can be widely found in GP clinics and veterinary surgeries. If, however, you are looking to store vaccines and other temperature sensitive medicines in larger quantities Labcold also manufacture an Advanced Range of pharmacy refrigeration with stainless steel interiors and ducted air flow. Available in sizes up to 1300 lire capacity, these fridges are ideal as stock refrigerators for satellite fridges.
As you would expect, all Labcold pharmacy refrigerators are UKCA and CE marked and backed by UK parts and labour warranties. The Advanced Range comes with a 2-year warranty and IntelliCold® with 5 years. The Advanced range also comes complete with a manufacturers’ calibration certificate from our UKAS accredited temperature calibration laboratory No: 8998. You can also have manufacturers’ calibration as an option on the Intellicold® range too.
To ensure the longevity of your fridge and compliance with Green Book regulations, Labcold can also provide annual maintenance and calibration of your pharmacy fridge. We have DBS checked engineers across the UK (including the channel and Scottish islands) trained by us and by our calibration laboratory to ensure technical competence and repeatable results. Because they are trained refrigeration engineers, they can maintain and calibrate any manufacturers’ fridge or data logger too.
