Meet the Advisory Board: Part Three

The Pharmacy Show is proud to be supported by an expert advisory board who support the development of the programme and speaker faculty. We have invited some of the most senior and innovative leaders transforming the pharmacy to join this committee, ensuring we can deliver true value to all our attendees and partners.  

Our advisory board is already helping us to refine the direction of the event and agenda, as well as sharing insights into how we can build out our community.

Paula Higginson, Head of learning development, Centre for Pharmacy Postgraduate Education

Paula Higginson is Head of Learning Development at the Centre for Pharmacy Postgraduate Education (CPPE), where she leads on the design and delivery of high-quality, person-centred learning to support the development of the pharmacy workforce. With a strong foundation in educational theory, Paula brings extensive experience in curriculum design and learning programme development across multiple formats. 

A pioneer in digital education, Paula developed and implemented the first web-based postgraduate programmes in Community Pharmacy Public Health Services, delivered in collaboration with The University of Manchester and CPPE. Her expertise includes e-learning, online teaching and assessment, and the creation of accredited postgraduate programmes for healthcare professionals. 

As a senior organisational leader, Paula is also an experienced facilitator, coach, and NLP practitioner. She is passionate about mentoring, team development, and promoting leadership at all levels, with a focus on engaging and motivating others to deliver impactful learning and care. 

 

Clare Smith, Lead pharmacist, learning development, Centre for Pharmacy Postgraduate Education

Clare Smith is an experience pharmacist with a demonstrated history of working in pharmacy education, having worked at the Centre for Pharmacy Postgraduate Education for almost a decade after over 22 years at Walgreens Boots Alliance. This span of experience in education, dispensing, and pharmacy services has made Clare highly skilled in customer service, pharmacy practice, and community pharmacy.  

 

James Wood, Director of Member and LPC Support, Community Pharmacy England 

James Wood 

James joined Community Pharmacy England in January 2021 as Community Pharmacy England’s first Director of Contractor & LPC Support. His role includes being a member of the Community Pharmacy England Leadership Team, leading on Contractor/LPC and Community Pharmacy England partnership, and participating in the Community Pharmacy England Negotiating Team. He is responsible for maintaining effective networks with contractors and contractor representative groups, including the 70 LPCs in England. 

James qualified as a pharmacist in 2004. Since qualification, he has had a diverse career in the sector and beyond in the wider NHS, including as a pharmacy contractor and Superintendent Pharmacist in Sheffield. James has been involved in local pharmacy representation via LPCs for most of his professional career; first as a governing member and latterly for over 9 years as a Chief Executive Officer.  

In 2018 James was designated a Fellow of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society in recognition of the advancement of pharmacy practice. 

 

Zoe Long, Director of Communications, Corporate and Public Affairs, Community Pharmacy England

Zoe Long is Director of Communications, Corporate and Public Affairs at Community Pharmacy England, where she leads the organisation’s strategic communications and public engagement. She is responsible for coordinating messaging across Community Pharmacy England’s channels, managing media relations, and providing communications support to Local Pharmaceutical Committees (LPCs) and community pharmacies. Zoe also plays a key role in wider advocacy efforts, working with national pharmacy bodies, the All-Party Pharmacy Group, and external partners to promote the role of community pharmacy and strengthen relationships with politicians and charities. 

With a background in journalism, Zoe joined Community Pharmacy England following five years at Chemist+Druggist magazine, where she managed the newsdesk of a news weekly for community pharmacists. Her work was recognised with a shortlist for the Paul Foot Award and a win as New Section Editor of the Year at the PTC New Talent Awards. 

Since joining Community Pharmacy England over a decade ago, Zoe has led high-impact campaigns and communications strategies that have helped shape the public and political narrative around pharmacy. Her work combines a deep understanding of healthcare with a passion for clear, compelling communication that supports and champions the community pharmacy sector.
