Graham Phillips
Director and Superintendent Pharmacist,
iHeart Pharmacy Group
Graham Phillips is a highly experienced and innovative pharmacist from the UK, often described as "The Pharmacist Who Gave Up Drugs" due to his radical departure from traditional pharmaceutical practices. His career spans over 35 years in community pharmacy, during which he has become a Fellow of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society and an influential voice in public health and preventive medicine.
Phillips initially gained prominence through his work as the owner and managing director of the Manor Pharmacy Group. Under his leadership, the group earned the "Leader of the Year" award at the 2012 Pharmacy Business Awards amongst other awards. His approach was always rooted in combining clinical excellence with community engagement, which eventually led him to explore more holistic approaches to health care. His approach is heavily influenced by the principles of low-carbohydrate and ketogenic diets, and he advocates for a significant shift in how the healthcare system approaches chronic disease management.
Phillips' influence extends beyond his pharmacy group. He has been involved in numerous public health initiatives, serving on the boards of the National Obesity Forum and the Public Health Collaboration. He also developed a "teaching pharmacy" concept in collaboration with the University of Hertfordshire, which integrates academic research with practical pharmacy education. His work and advocacy represent a significant paradigm shift in the role of pharmacists, moving from medication dispensers to health coaches who can guide patients in managing and preventing chronic diseases through diet, exercise, and other lifestyle modifications.
